Citizenship by Naturalization

The Department of Vanuatu Immigration and Passport Services is not responsible for granting Citizenship. The Citizenship applications are processed by the Vanuatu Citizenship Office (https://vancitizenship.gov.vu/) which is under the office the Prime Minister of Vanuatu. The Vanuatu Citizenship Office however relies on the department of Vanuatu Immigration and Passport Services for the certification of residence in Vanuatu for Citizenship by NATURALIZATION. For other types of citizenship (by Investment…), please liaise directly with the Vanuatu Citizenship office.

The certification for citizenship by naturalization is given by the Vanuatu Immigration and Passport Services in line with the Citizenship Act [CAP.112] PART 3.

IMPORTANT:

To be entitled to the citizenship certification from the Vanuatu Immigration and Passport Services, following criteria must be met:

  • The applicant, on the date of application, has been continuously residing ordinarily and legally in Vanuatu for a period of 10 years in compliance with the Immigration Act No.17 of 2010
  • The applicant is married to a Vanuatu Citizen and has been residing with his or her spouse in Vanuatu for a period of more than 2 years

The applicant is the child of a Vanuatu Citizen

Application Requirements:

  • Copy of valid passport
  • Signed request letter from client

Additionally:

*If By naturalization:

  • Copy of residence visa

*If by marriage to a Vanuatu citizen:

  • Copy of Marriage certificate
  • Copy of Birth certificate and/or Vanuatu passport for spouse

*If by child of a Vanuatu citizen:

  • Copy of birth certificate

Copy of birth certificate and/or Vanuatu passport for parent
