GUIDE FOR CITIZENSHIP

REGISTRATION OF SPOUSE OF FIJI CITIZEN

  • A child born outside Fiji may become a citizen by registration on or after commencement date if, at the time of child’s birth, either parent was a citizen.
  • A foreign child adopted by a citizen when the child was under the age of 18 may become a citizen by registration.
  • A child who was under the age of 18 when either parent became a citizen may become a citizen by registration.
  • An application for registration made by the child concerned after he or she has reached the age of 18 must not be granted unless he or she has been lawfully present in Fiji for a total of 3 out of 5 years immediately before application is lodged.

REGISTRATION FORMER FIJI CITIZEN

  • Former Fiji Citizens who have become naturalized citizens of another country can apply for Fiji Citizenship.
  • A person who has acquired citizenship of one or more countries is not restricted from applying and being granted Fiji Citizenship by Registration.

REGISTRATION OF SPOUSE OF FIJI CITIZEN

  • An application for registration made by spouse of Fiji citizen must not be granted unless he or she has been lawfully present in Fiji for a total of 3 out of 5 years immediately before application is lodged.

CITIZENSHIP BY NATURALIZATION

  • An adult may become a citizen by naturalization.
  • In order to qualify for a grant of certificate of naturalization, a person must have been lawfully present in Fiji for a total of 5 out 10 years immediately before the application is lodged.

For those who acquire Citizenship through Registration or Naturalization are issued with a Fijian Citizenship Certificate. A Fijian Citizenship Certificate is an official document that shows a person is a Fijian. You can get a certificate if you meet the Citizenship acquisition requirements.

APPLY FOR FIJIAN CITIZENSHIP

To become a Fijian citizen, applicants must be:

A child under the age of 18 who’s either parents is a Fiji Citizen.

Eligibility

Registration of Minors means registration of a child under the age of 18 and whose either parent is a Fiji citizen. 

Criteria

You must:-

  • be under the age of 18
  • either parent is a Fiji citizen
  • complete citizenship application form Section A, B, C, I and certificate A.
  • if child under 11, responsible parent must consent to and sign your citizenship application form
  • submit photograph less than 6 months old, good quality colour, full-face view of your head and shoulders and taken against a plain or light coloured background
  • have all non-English documents translated into English and copies to be certified.

 

Documentary requirements

Prepare your documents, we need:   

  • Passport size photos (x2)
  • Certified copy of birth certificate
  • Certified copy of the child’s current passport biodata (if acquired)
  • Certified copies of parents birth certificate
  • Certified copy of parents Fijian citizenship certificate (if naturalized or registered)
  • Certified copies of parent’s current passport biodata, birth certificates,
    marriage certificate
  • Adoption paper (if child is adopted)

A child above the age of 18 who’s either parents is a Fiji Citizen.

Eligibility

Registration of Minors means registration of a child above the age of 18 and whose either parent is a Fiji citizen. 

Applicant must have been lawfully present or residing in Fiji on a valid permit or exemption status for a total of 3 of the 5 years immediately before the application is lodged.  Any period during which the applicant was in Fiji as a visitor or on student permit must NOT be taken into account.

Criteria

You must:-

  • be above the age of 18
  • either parent is a Fiji citizen
  • complete citizenship application form Section A, B, C, I and certificate B (2 referees).
  • must sign your citizenship application form
  • submit photograph less than 6 months old, good quality colour, full-face view of
        your head and shoulders and taken against a plain or light coloured background
  • have all non-English documents translated into English and copies to be certified.

 

Documentary requirements

Prepare your documents, we need:        

  • Passport size photos (x2)
  • Certified copy of birth certificate
  • Certified copy of current passport biodata
  • Certified copies of parents birth certificate
  • Certified copy of parents Fijian citizenship certificate (if naturalized or registered)
  • Certified copies of parent’s current passport biodata, birth certificates, marriage certificate
  • Copy of permit
  • Completed Oath of Allegiance Form
  • Qualifying calculation letter

Registration of Former Fiji Citizen means registration of an adult who is a citizen of another country and was formerly a citizen of Fiji. 

Eligibility

Criteria

You must:-

  • complete citizenship application form Section A, B, C, I and certificate A.
  • must sign your citizenship application form
  • submit photograph less than 6 months old, good quality colour, full-face view of your head and shoulders and taken against a plain or light colored background
  • have all non-English documents translated into English and copies to be certified
  • Good character

 

Documentary requirements

Prepare your documents, we need:  

  • Passport size photos (x2)
  • Certified copy of birth certificate
  • Completed Oath of Allegiance form
  • Police report from country of current citizenship or residence (for the last 12 months).  Not required if the applicant live/work in Fiji.
  • Local Police Report (if already in Fiji for the last 12 months)
  • Copy of Fijian passport (optional)
  • Deed Poll (if name changed)
  • Proof of father’s Fijian citizen (if applicant is above 21 years)

Where you can lodge your application

You can lodge your application at your nearest Fijian Embassy or Immigration office

Your fees depend on whether you’re an adult (18 and over), minor (under age 18) or former citizen. Your fees may include the application, oath of affirmation and citizenship certificates. The fees may vary, if you lodge outside Fiji

  • Child of a Fiji Citizen (under 18 years) : F$374.00
  • Child of a Fiji Citizen (18 years over): F$506.00
  • Former Fiji Citizen : $3209.00

Applications are assessed on a case-by-case basis, and that actual processing times may vary due to individual circumstances including:

  • whether the applicant has lodged a complete application which includes all required documents;
  • response to any requests for additional information
  • time taken to perform required checks; and
  • receiving additional information from external parties.

You can apply for Fijian passport once you have received your Fijian Citizenship Certificate from us.

You can apply online for a passport (ePassport Portal) and must appear in person at your designated passport office for biometrics except for children below 12 years.
