INFORMATION – IMMIGRATION SERVICES

Business visitor permit is for 21 days. Purpose of the permit, for non-citizen  who wish to work, conduct business, investment or     consultancy. Permit cannot be extendable. Appropriate work permits to be applied for work or  business, beyond 21 days.

To apply for business visitor permit, email your request to [email protected] . Requirements includes:

  1. Letter of invitation from Local Organisation stating reason/purpose of visit; contact person in Fiji
  2. Return ticket
  3. Duration of stay normally requested – 21 days; 30 days given on the Departments discretion
  4. Evidence of funds for support during stay in Fiji
  5. Passport biodata

Response timelines range from 2 to 24 hours, depending on submission of all requirements.

This permit category is for medical patients and carerer. Number of carers is limited to three persons. Application form and checklist is on the Department website. Letter from the doctor or transfer letter from the doctor or Ministry of Health is required.
Permit period is for 1 year.

Information for Employers (Work permit)

  • Employer, organisation and institution sponsoring non-citizen to work in Fiji are to ensure that all mandatory requirements (checklist) for permit applications are submitted.
  • Non-submission of any of the required documents can be grounds to decline or refuse, permit applications.
  • Employment contract which includes all non-negotiable condition is a mandatory requirement. A standard sample of employment contract in accordance to the Fiji Labour laws is available on the Fiji Immigration website.
  • Employer is responsible for returning foreign workers to home country as covered in the repatriation clause of the employment contract.
  • Employers to provide evidence that content of the employment contract is understood by the foreign worker and signed by both parties. Change of employment while in country is not permitted unless approve by the Immigration Department.
  • Employers to ensure applicant’s passport is valid for the duration of permit. Application with less than 6 months passport validity will not be accepted.
    Secondment
  • Employers to ensure secondment letter signed by the parent company is submitted with the application.
    Voluntary arrangements
  • Organisation or company to provide letter of engagement with the application.

This Exemption Status category is granted to a person who is a Fiji Citizen and holder of a valid foreign passport to enter, reside, study and work. If approved, Exemption Status will be granted until passport validity. Application form and requirements are available on the Department’s website.

This Exemption Status category is granted to an unmarried child of a Fiji citizen under the age of 18 years and holder of a valid foreign passport to enter, reside and study in the country. Application form and requirements are available on the Department’s website.

  1. Child(ren) must be under 18 years of age at time of lodgement;
  2. Child(ren) must be the legitimate or illegitimate child, stepchild or adopted child of a Fiji Citizen;
  3. If the applicant is applying from outside the country, his/her passport must be valid for more than six months from the date of application lodgement and/or intended arrival into the country;
  4. Where a question in a particular section does not apply to you in the application form, please put N/A;
  5. If a Spouse of a Fiji Citizen is applying for Exemption Status under Spouse Category, the same application form can be used to apply for children under this category. The child(ren) are to be included in Part C of the application form;
  6. If the Fiji Citizen parent was born in Fiji and does not hold a valid Fiji Passport, a copy of his/her birth certificate along with a valid national photo ID such as Voter Registration Card / FRCS & FNPF Joint Card / Driver’s License must be submitted;
  7. If the Child will not be residing with either parent in Fiji, a letter of support must be submitted from the local guardian along with a copy of the guardian’s valid passport;
  8. If the applicant is adopted by a Fiji Citizen, adoption papers of the child must be submitted;
  9. The Fiji Citizen parent must submit proof of relationship and a completed statutory declaration if the applicant is a stepchild;
  10. Applicant must submit translated certified copies of all non-English documents in English (by a registered translator);
  11. Providing false information in this application can lead to imprisonment or a fine or both.

This Exemption Status category is granted to a person legally married to a Fiji Citizen and holder of a valid foreign passport to enter, reside and study in the country. If approved, Exemption Status will be granted for one (1) year initially (or less than this if passport is valid for less than a year at time of lodgement) and may be extended thereafter to the satisfaction of the Director of Immigration. Application form and requirements are available on the Department’s website.

  1. Applicant must be legally married to a Fiji Citizen;
  2. If the applicant is applying from outside the country, his/her passport must be valid for more than one year from the date of application lodgement and/or intended arrival into the country;
  3. A Spouse of a Fiji Citizen is exempted from obtaining a student permit for the purpose of studying in tertiary institutions;
  4. Spouse of Fiji Citizens must apply for a work permit if they intend to work in the country;
  5. If you are also applying for children under Exemption Status for Child of a Fiji Citizen Category, the same application form can be used to apply for this. The child(ren) are to be included in Part C of the application form and the relevant documentary requirements must be submitted;
  6. Where a question in a particular section does not apply to you in the application form, please put N/A;
  7. If the Fiji Citizen Spouse was born in Fiji and does not hold a valid Fiji Passport, a copy of his/her birth certificate along with a valid national photo ID such as Voter Registration Card / FRCS & FNPF Joint Card / Driver’s License must be submitted;
  8. Applicant must submit translated certified copies of all non-English documents in English (by a registered translator);
  9. Applicant must submit police clearance from country of citizenship and/or residence in the initial application. If the applicant submits a police clearance from his/her country of residence, he/she also needs to provide proof of immigration status in that country e.g. copy of visa / permit.
  10. For extension applications, a local police clearance is required (attach receipt of lodgement only). However, a police clearance from country of citizenship and/or residence will need to be submitted in the extension application if the applicant has been out of the country for more than a year since the exemption status was granted;
  11. Exemption status granted remains valid as long as the holder remains legally married to his/her Fiji citizen spouse;
  12. The Department reserves all rights to acquire additional documents for further verification, as and when required;
  13. Providing false information in this application can lead to imprisonment or a fine or both.

This Exemption Status category is granted to a person employed in the service of the Government of the Fiji Islands or the Government of any country or territory entering the Fiji Islands in the course of his/her duty to enter, reside and work in the country. Application form and requirements are available on the Department’s website.

  1. Applicant must be employed in the service of the Government of the Fiji Islands or the Government of any country or territory entering the Fiji Islands in the course of his/her duty;
  2. If the applicant is applying from outside the country, his/her passport must be valid for more than six months from the date of application lodgement and/or intended arrival into the country;
  3. All applications for individuals taking up appointments with a public office in Fiji (other than an office for which Chapter 5 of the Constitution makes provision) will require the endorsement from the Office of the Prime Minister;
  4. Where a question in a particular section does not apply to you in the application form, please put N/A;
  5. If you are also applying for the applicant’s family members under Exemption Status for Family Members of Exempted Persons Category, the same application form can be used to apply for this. The family members are to be included in Part C of the application form and the relevant documentary requirements must be submitted;
  6. Applicant must submit translated certified copies of all non-English documents in English (by a registered translator);
  7. Exemption status granted remains valid as long as the holder remains an employee of the specified organization or institution;
  8. The Department reserves all rights to acquire additional documents for further verification, as and when required.

Study Permit

New Primary School students are not eligible to apply for a study permit. If they still lodge their applications online, applications fees will not be refunded.

Research Permit

Renewal of Research Applications is fees exempted.

Internship Permit

Renewal of Internship Permit to exceed the one (1) year will need to get endorsement from Director of Fiji Immigration Department.
